16 Lessons Every Apostle Can Learn from the Creation Story Part 1

By Ricardo ‘Rease’ Butler

This 2018 year on my blog, I will be doing more sharing of what I learned rather than just teaching and training. I will also be re-releasing previous music albums and e-Books as well as focus on writing more e-Books. But that’s another topic.

So my new style of blogging will be more about lessons Jehovah has revealed to me personally from my own Bible studies.

Today’s Word study come from Genesis 1:1-31 to Genesis 2:1-3, better known to the world as “The Creation Story.”

I’m not here to argue the creation story or its validity to flat-earth believers, followers of Darwin, hard core Bible bashing self-proclaimed theologian, or picky cross the ‘t’ and dot the ‘i’ doctrinal teachers. I am simply here to use “Every part of Scripture [as it] is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.(2nd Timothy 3:16-17, The Message).

My blog is still targeting first and foremost five fold ministry leaders to be strategic, creative, artistic, innovative, entrepreneurial, and cutting edge problem solving spiritual parents in the home, ministry, and marketplace! Because I do not want God’s people to go through the pain of dealing with false/bad leadership.

It’s a passion for me to be a different kind of leader and to equip leaders to be different as light, salt, humble, loving wise servant leaders. The house of God is in great lack of spiritual parents. While serving as an elder is good and being a godly five fold equipping ministry leader is great, but God wants us to take it a step further. He wants us to not only reach, lead, and feed; He wants us to parent His children with the same heart after His own!

So let’s go with these 16 Lessons Every Apostle Can Learn from the Creation Story!

  1. God Started with Wisdom Before Anything Else (v. 1).

It is not a mystery among apostolic circles that it is the apostles who God sets first (which in Greek means, “Firstly {in time, place, order, or importance}:–before, at the beginning, chiefly, (at, at the) first (of all)”) in the church (1 Cor. 12:28). And that God also builds His house (the church) first with wisdom (Prov. 24:3). On top of that Paul calls himself by the grace of God a wise masterbuilder, which I believe should apply to every apostle. Apostles and Wisdom should go hand and hand.

In Genesis the statement “In the beginning” in Hebrew can also be translated to mean, “The first, in place, time, order or rank (specifically a first fruit):–beginning, chief, chiefest, first, first fruits, first part, first time, principal thing.”

If you notice the words I’ve put in bold for both “first” and “in the beginning” has similar meanings as the apostle is being set first and God in the beginning created. The phrase “in the beginning” can also mean “PRINCIPAL THING.” Where have we heard that before? Oh! I know!

Wisdom IS the PRINCIPAL THING; therefore [or FIRST] get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.(Proverbs 4:7).

We can easily translate the first words of the written Word as “In WISDOM God created the heavens and the earth.” God started with wisdom and the apostle should start with wisdom before doing anything within their calling. Christ IS our Wisdom (1 Cor. 1:24, 30). And it was through Christ who is Wisdom and who is the BEGINNING of Creation as our Chief Apostle laid FIRST in the house or Church of God that is being built. Christ (WISDOM) Himself said,

The LORD [God the Father] possessed Me [Wisdom who is JESUS] in the beginning of His [God’s] way, before His [God’s] works of old. I [Wisdom who is JESUS] was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever [before] the earth was. When there were no depths, I [Wisdom who is JESUS] was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I [Wisdom who is JESUS] brought forth: while as yet He [God] had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When He [God] prepared the heavens, I [Wisdom who is JESUS] was there: when He [God] set a compass upon the face of the depth: when He [God] established the clouds above: when He [God] strengthened the fountains of the deep: when He [God] gave to the sea His [God’s] decree, that the waters should not pass His [God’s] commandment: when He [God] appointed the foundations of the earth: then I [Wisdom who is JESUS] was by Him [by God], as one brought up with Him [with God]: and I [Wisdom who is JESUS] was daily His [God’s] delight, rejoicing always before him [God].(Proverbs 8:22-30).

I believe God wants every living human being to receive and enjoy the benefits of His wisdom, but I strongly believe every apostle or believer called to function in the apostolic to pay close attention to Scriptures that make mention of wisdom. I believe there is a special message for apostles and apostolic people concerning wisdom and the apostolic dimension when we pay attention to all passages making any mention of God’s Wisdom.

  1. Apostles Can Discern Light from Darkness (v. 4).

For a long time in Christ I didn’t believe that I could tell the difference between things of God and the things of satan within the Church. I made a lot of mistakes when I was a babe in Christ. But as we all mature discernment is for every child of God. The gift of discerning of spirits is totally different. I couldn’t even “discern” that these are two different discernments! Ha! Ha! But apostles and apostolic people should be able to discern or as I like to say compare and contrast between the things of God and the things of satan in any area. Hebrews says,

“For every one that useth milk is unskillful in the Word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age [spiritually mature with love and wisdom], even those who by reason of use have their senses [spiritual judgment] exercised [developed, trained] to discern [tell the difference between] both good and evil.” (Hebrews 5:13-14).

Discernment helps the apostle keep the things of God pure and remove the things of satan, the flesh, the world, and religious things out from among the people of God.

  1. There is Power in the Words of the Apostle (v. 6).

Proverbs says,

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18:21).

The apostles’ authority is given the built up because love edifies or builds up. Love is that power. Love, Life, and Light are uses synonymously in spiritual and figurative (or parabolic) ways by God all across the Word of God. Love is our power to use God’s Word in our mouths correctly when speaking into the atmosphere or upon the lives of God’s people.

  1. Apostles are Capable of Reproducing after our Selves, our Kind, or Likeness (v. 11-12).

I will take a statement I read somewhere years ago. I forgot from where I read it since it was such a long time ago, or I’d give him or her credit. But they said,

It would seem that the Seed (the Word of God) should produce the same results and fruit regardless of the spiritual condition of those who scatter it. It does not work that way! The identical message preached … by men of differing degrees of godliness will produce different kinds of converts and result in a quality of Christianity varying according to the purity and power of those who preach it. Christianity will always produce after its kind.

John C. Maxwell former pastor, now leadership author and expert said, “We teach what we know, but we reproduce who/what we are.” With that said, what kind of apostle are you? If your focus is on a specific topic of teaching or your character has cracks in it, then that is what you will impart into others. I always say, “If you have a complaint about the church and the world, then be what you want to see in the church and world. If you want men to be strong and have integrity, then model it.”

  1. Apostles can become like God through Christ (v. 26).

All humanity is created to be conformed into the SPIRITUAL image of God, which is Christ Jesus. It was God working in Christ who crafted the first of mankind to be like Himself and He called them “Apostles.” They were, you can say, “experiments” to prove that a human can be like God or God-like in the spirit while walking in carnal flesh. Paul said,

For I think [Gk: ‘To seem (truthfully)’] that God hath set forth [Gk: ‘To show off, exhibit; to demonstrate, accredit:–prove, approve, set forth, show’] us the apostles last [Gk: ‘(in the sense of contiguity). Farthest, final (of place or time):–ends of, last, latter end, lowest, uttermost’], as it were appointed to death [Gk: ‘Doomed to death:–appointed to death’]: for we are made a spectacle [Gk: ‘A PLACE FOR PUBLIC SHOW (“THEATRE“), GENERAL AUDIENCE-ROOM: A SHOW  ITSELF’] unto the world, and to angels, and to men.

It is the apostle who God continues to mold and refashion over and over again for His glorious purpose to show the world, angels, demons, and mankind as an example of what He will do with all of humanity.

For example: Many Christian teachers and theologians like to look at Joseph and conclude that God merely turns the lemons of Joseph’s brothers into lemonade. That is totally untrue and unscriptural. Was the selling of Joseph into Egypt as a slave (their lemons), that God then used to preserve life (His lemonade)? Is that what took place here? God used their lemons to make His lemonade? Absolutely not.

It was GOD who made these “lemons” in the first place“GOD DID SEND [sent like an apostle] ME …,” and it was also God Who turned those lemons into lemonade, “… TO PRESERVE LIFE” (Gen. 45:5b). Or as Gen. 50:20 states:

“But as for you, ye thought evil [lemons] against me: but God meant it for good [LEMONADE], to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”

Joseph (an Old Testament type of an apostle) and his brothers is a parable for the whole plan of God, to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear:

God made the lemons and God changed the lemons into lemonade.

God is the Potter and we are the clay. God first made the clay in His hands “marred/ruined”—LEMONS, before “… He made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the Potter to make it”—LEMONADE (Jeremiah 18:4).

Therefore, “For as in Adam ALL DIE [the marred, ruined clay—lemons] even so in Christ shall ALL [it’s the same ‘all’ as ‘in Adam’—it’s the SAME CLAY {Adam means ‘clay’}–lemons] BE MADE ALIVE [‘another vessel, as seemed good to the Potter to make it’—LEMONADE].” (1st Corinthians 15:22).

It is God Who makes both the lemons and the lemonade. God is in control of His creation from beginning to end:

“Having made known unto us the mystery of His will [God’s will is still a mystery to the world of Christendom], according to His good pleasure [‘For it is GOD which works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure—Phil. 2:13] which He has purposed in Himself [not in man’s fabled ‘free will’]: That in the dispensation of the fullness of times He might gather together in ONE, ALL things in Christ, both which are IN HEAVEN, and which are ON EARTH [that’s ALL the heavenly host and ALL humanity that has ever lived]; even in Him: In Whom also we have obtained an inheritance [in this age and this lifetime, ahead of the rest which must go through judgment first], being predestined according to the purpose of Him [not by the ‘maybe yes/maybe no’ uncertain shaky possibility of man’s supposed free will] Who works ALL THINGS after the counsel of HIS OWN WILL.” (Ephesians 1:9-11).

It is GOD Who does the working of the clay. The clay does not determine its own destiny, that is the POTTER’S job:

“Nay but, O man, who are you that replies against God? Shall the thing formed [we, the clay] say to Him that formed it [God, the Potter], Why have You made me thus? Has not the Potter power over the clay [and the clay’s powerless imagined ‘free will’], of the same lump to make one vessel unto honor [lemonade], and another unto dishonor [lemons]” (Rom. 9:20-21).

“Shall the ax [the one being used by God] boast itself against Him that hews with it?” (Isaiah 10:15).

“And the vessel [humanity] that He made of clay [Adam] was marred [‘ruined’—and its heart was made ‘subject to vanity {futility, failure}… and in ‘bondage of corruption’, Rom. 8:20-21], in the hand of the Potter: so He made it again ANOTHER vessel, as seemed good to the Potter to make it” (Jeremiah 18:4).

Every vessel of humanity is first made “marred [‘bodies terrestrial, sown in corruption, sown in dishonor, sown in weakness, sown a natural body, the first man Adam was made a living soul, the first man is of the earth, earthy, we have borne the image of the earthy, flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, this corruptible, this mortal’ (1 Cor. 15:40, 42, 43, 45, 47, 49, 53)] in the hand of the Potter.” … “the carnal mind is enmity against God,” … “for out of the heart proceed evil thoughts.”

Then God “made it again ANOTHER vessel [‘also celestial bodies, raised in incorruption, raised in power, raised a spiritual body, the last Adam was made a quickening spirit, the second man is the Lord from heaven, and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly, we shall ALL be changed, the dead shall be raised incorruptible, must put on incorruption, must put on immortality’ (1 Cor. 15:40, 42, 43, 45, 47, 49, 52, 53)], as seemed good to the Potter to make it” … “to be spiritually minded [have the mind of Christ and the love of God shed abroad in our hearts] is life and peace” … “follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart..” Every vessel must be refashioned–regenerated, converted, judged, purged, and born again of the Spirit.

  1. Apostles are Able to Lead and Take Charge on Earth (v. 26).

Apostles are naturally spiritual leaders once imparted by God’s Spirit and ordained for the calling for which they are commissioned. They are empowered to be nothing less then leaders in any field, measure of rule, industry, or on any of the 7 mountains of influence. They can’t help it. They don’t know how to be anything but leaders. They are taught to follow, then they learn to lead and show others how to do likewise.

  1. Both Men & Women can become like God through Christ and share in that Leadership over the Earth (v. 27).

The Genesis 1:27 says that God “… created [is as a continuous action conforming] man in His own image, in the image of God [Christ is that spiritual image and glory] created He him [Adam (both Adam and Eve were BOTH called ADAM until Adam named Eve]; MALE AND FEMALE created He [God] THEM.

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither [NO DIFFERENCE, NO DISTINCTION] male nor female: for ye are all ONE [God created ‘THEM’] in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28).

It says in the New Testament that there is no distinction between men and women IN THE SPIRIT, IN CHRIST, IN THE HEAVENS, IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD, IN THE BODY OF CHRIST, IN THE CHURCH OF GOD, etc. There are MALE apostles and FEMALE apostles OF THE SPIRIT of Christ with God’s powerful endowment to lead within the apostolic dimension.

  1. Apostles are “Blessed” to do God’s Work in the Earth (v. 28).

The word “blessed” in verse 28 means a lot more then just being “blessed.” In Ephesians 1:3, it shows us HOW God actually blessed mankind through Christ.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed [Gk: ‘To speak well of, i.e. (religiously) to bless (thank or invoke a benediction upon, prosper):–bless, praise’] us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.”

What God means when it says He blessed “them” and “us”, which is to say all mankind, the nations, and all the families of the earth through, where He talks about this blessing with Abraham is:

  • To speak well of means, “God recommends the apostle, God acclaims the apostle, God advances the apostle, God advises the apostle, God applauds the apostle, God approves the apostle, God backs the apostle, God is satisfied (or is pleased) with the apostle, God celebrates the apostle, God commends the apostle, God compliments the apostle, God counsels the apostle, God shines His countenance on the apostle, God directs the apostle, God endorses the apostle, God esteems the apostle, God exalts the apostle, God exhorts, warns and encourages the apostle, God extols the apostle, God gives favor to the apostle, God guarantees the apostle, God guides the apostle, God instructs the apostle, God lends approval to the apostle, God lends support to the apostle, God makes the apostle desirable, God makes the apostle preferable, God moves the apostle, God persuades the apostle, God prescribes the apostle, God presents the apostle as worthy, God prizes the apostle, God promotes the apostle, God prompts the apostle with His Spirit and with His love, God ratifies the apostle, God gives sanction to the apostle, God stands by the apostle, God suggests the apostle, God supports, God upholds the apostle, God urges the apostle, God values the apostle, God vouches for the apostle.”
  • To bless means, “God makes holy the apostle; God sanctifies the apostle; God invokes divine favor upon the apostle; God glorifies the apostle; God confers well-being or prosperity on the apostle; God endow the apostle, as with talent (like spiritual gifts).”
  • To thank means, “God share His grateful feelings or thoughts upon the apostles to the apostle and before others; God expresses gratitude towards the apostle.”
  • To invoke a benediction upon means, “God invokes divine blessing upon the apostle; God utters (like a prophet would) of good or well wishes; God imparts a benefit upon the apostle.”
  • To prosper means, “Because of God the apostle will be fortunate and/or successful, especially in terms of the apostles’ finances; God will cause the apostle to thrive no matter the times be good or bad.”
  • To praise means, “God show and gives expressions of approval, commendation, and admiration towards the apostle.”

God not only does this things FIRST to the apostle who is set into the church, but He will do this to every member of the Body of Christ and upon all the families of the earth through Christ and the Church because of the covenant He made with Abraham.

The next several verses all the way down to verse 12 shares what many of these “spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” are. You can read them for yourself. Got some awesome things God wants you to know and to believe, and to have listed on that list!
